I had the opportunity to speak with MNTC on his livestream about my thoughts on issue #150, but I thought I'd share my thoughts and open up the discussion to anyone who had any other thoughts.

So here were my thoughts.

What's good:

Overall, the story is okay, but it doesn't change the status quo that much
I like that Venus is gone — that's one female mutant turtle gone
There was a nice callback to the original Armaggon

What's meh/bad:

There are still a lot of plot holes left open — like we don't know where Mondo Gecko and the Mutagen Man are
The whole explanation for the reincarnation stuff isn't really necessary; reincarnation is an established religious belief, it doesn't really need an explanation, and it's honestly kind of disrespectful to try to give it this big scientific explanation. I think early on in the run Tom Waltz was trying to stray away from giving it a scientific explanation. That was one of the earliest arguments between Leo and Donnie in the first few issues.
Carmen wasn't anywhere to be found, despite being with the rest of the gang at Northampton
I don't like the concept of Donnie's kids, do we really need more turtles?

On Lita:

It's all but confirmed now that Lita is an allegory for transgenderism
Evil Bob saw her memories and said "Her mutation actually gave her something. Things got better for her, and she loves being a mutant"
But really, I think that is missing the entire point. Lita's mutation wasn't what gave her anything. It was the kindness of the turtles that gave her a family. It didn't matter that she was a mutant; they were taking care of human orphans well before the mutagen bomb. By focusing entirely on Lita's identity as a turtle, it undermines the actually powerful message of family and acceptance.
But this is where things get murky. Trans people like Sophie aren't looking for acceptance. They are already given all of the rights as everyone else under the law in the U.S. And they are practically worshipped by half of the country. For all intents and purposes, trans people are accepted. What they really want is their identity to be validated. Trans people want to be something different than what they were born as, and they want to force everyone else to go along with it. That's why Lita's story became one about her identity as a turtle and not a touching story about acceptance and family.
